On this day you will swear
to do no harm, to respect, to listen.
You will not be ashamed to admit, I know not.
There will be days of discovery
in folded hands,
eyes that look away.
And nights when you lie awake wondering.
You will ask yourself,
Am I doing the right thing?
and some days be left
holding your own heart.
And when a patient asks, Why me?
You will hold his hand
and dance with the story of the body.
